JYJ Celebrates Red Ribbon Week
This week in addition to Spirit Week our JYJ students and staff celebrate Red Ribbon Week which promotes living a healthy lifestyle and teaches students about the dangers of drug use and saying no. During the week, Red Ribbon facts will be shared on the JYJ News, students will have an opportunity to sign our "Drug Free at JYJ" banner and will receive red ribbons to remind them that drug free is the JYJ way to be!
Creating online flashcards
Here are two websites (Quizlet & Cramberry) that allow you and/or your child to create and/or use online flash cards. Both websites are free and easy to navigate through. They both also have pre-made flashcards based on the subject area (just in case you don't need or want to create your flashcards). Cramberry has an app for the ipad and iphone!

Kid Friendly Search Engine
My absolute favorite search engine is...Google of course, but there's a search engine that is geared for younger Internet surfers! Sweet Search is pretty awesome. I did a test by just typing in "word problems" and got great results on ways to study, understand and even various types of word problems. Oh how helpful this site could be as an alternative to my trusty Google!

Camp Flintrock Comes to JYJ
Students in our 4th grade classes had a wonderful opportunity to "visit" Camp Flintrock right on the campus of JYJ! This field trip allowed students to experience living during the colonial times, like writing with ink with a feather tip, wearing war paint on their faces, creating beaded necklaces, playing colonial games and life living in a tent. The excitement on our students faces is priceless! I was amazed about this exciting experience too!

Math Night 2011
Add, subtract, multiple & divide...all MATH terms that could be seen and heard throughout our JYJ Math night. The candy estimation jars were a hit and had a steady stream of "guessers" the entire night! I enjoyed meeting and chatting with our JYJ parents and of course our JYJ students! Here are some pictures from the event.
